Syllabus

1. Complete Beginnners

This level aims to provide students with a basic understanding of 'l'art du chi' method and its benefits. It prepares students for the practice of Tai Chi. Techniques used involve:

Relaxation
– Relaxation Techniques
– Stretching
– Automassage (Tao Yin)

Centering
– Locating your centre (Tantien)
– Focusing on Tantien

Posture
– Learning to naturally align our body in relation to its centre

Breathing
– Breathing fully and without effort to help restore our vitality

Hands
– Develop our awareness to vital energy or Chi through the hands

Movements
– 11 Chinese therapeutic exercises (Qi Gong)
– First approach to TaiChi postures

2. Beginnners 24 level

At this level, we consolidate what has been learned at the complete beginners level and introduce the short Yang form (24 postures) alongside the Tai Ji breahing techniques.

– Developing the Tantien

Posture
– Inner symmetry
– sitting posture

Breathing
– Lower abdominal breathing
– Selective breathing into four areas (kidneys, ribs, sternum and collarbones)

Movements
– Basic Tai Chi principles: fluidity, continuity, stability ...
– Learning the short Yang form (24 postures)

3. Intermediate 24

The intermediate level is open to students who attend classes and workshops regularly and wish to perfect the 24 level postures.

– Using the Tantien

Posture
– Standing posture

Breathing
– Tai Chi breathing (3 phases)

Movements
– Perfecting the short Yang form (24 postures)
– Introducing the Tai Chi breathing in the form

4. Advanced 108

The advanced level is open to students who have regularly attended 'l'art du chi' classes and workshop for a minimum of 2 years and wish to develop a personal practice.

Centering
– Advanced techniques

Posture
– Posture in movement

Breathing
– Approach of Chi circulation (small orbit)

Movements
– Learning the long Yang form (108 postures)
– Introducing the 4 phases of each posture

The study continues as we develop and perfect our practice. For some this may lead towards the teacher training offered by the International Inner Way School of which 'l'art du chi - scotland' is a part.
